Meklit Hadero

Feb 9 2012

Singer-songwriter Meklit Hadero’s music draws from a variety of influences: jazz, hip-hop, art-rock, and folk traditions from the Americas and East Africa. Born in Ethiopia, raised in the U.S., and nurtured by San Francisco’s richly diverse arts scene, the acclaimed singer embodies these worlds with a sound that is hers alone.

“[Meklit] sings of fragility, hope and self-empowerment… [with a] sensuous, gentle sound. She is stunning.” – San Francisco Chronicle

Hadero will perform songs from her critically-acclaimed album On a Day Like This… (2010). She is joined by Darren Johnston (trumpet), D’vonne Lewis (drums), and Evan Flory-Barnes (acoustic bass).

The audience is invited to a reception with the artists following the performance.

Generous support provided by Emanuela Barilla.

This performance is part of the Composers Now Festival, a month-long, city-wide celebration of living composers, the diversity of their voices, and the significance of their musical contributions to our society. For more information visit composers-now.org.
